IN AN EFFORT to finally bring an end to the highly embarrassing parade of wasteful spending which reared its ugly head again when it was revealed the National Maternity Hospital is tendering for a €100,000 bike shed, the Department of Public Expenditure has launched a €7 million information campaign.

Aimed at nabbing the attention of those in the civil service and beyond who make procurement and spending decisions the campaign, total budget now €8,161000 when VAT is included, seeks to bring an end to unfathomable waste of taxpayer’s money.

“The media consultant we hired to hire the media manager we hired said a firm he works with says gold plated letters on bus ads are the most impactful, you’ve got to pay a little extra, but when it comes to informing people who spend these budgets on how not to waste money you can’t really spare expense y’know?” confirmed one department official.

The information blast will cover internal communications, print, radio and visual advertisements, including 14 hours of Irish language adverts which will air on TV between 2am and 4 am in Bulgaria.

“Obviously the final budget of €24 million represents the very best in terms of audience reach, you can be sure when all €32 million of the updated budget of €49 million is spent, the people who overspend on bike sheds will see the error of their ways and learn, pending the €100 million tribunal inquiry into the matter,” added the official, at the launch of the information campaign in The Plaza hotel in New York.
