“DAD! The waterpark is closing in ten minutes, can we go now?” shouted 7-year-old Derek Thompson at father Michael, who was too busy filming a minor inconvenience in the hotel corridor, convinced this might finally be ‘the big one’.

“One second, Derek, head down to your mother in the lobby. Daddy is trying to make history here,” barked the 42-year-old father-of-three as he carefully filmed a messy cleaning trolley outside Room 2304, desperate for anything that might scream Jet2 Holiday viral fame.

Now nine days into their ten-day trip, wife Marie explained that her husband’s obsession with recording has spiralled into full-blown mania.

“He literally films everything now. Anytime I hear ‘Darling, hold my hand’ coming from his phone I just leave the room. He refreshes his reels every thirty seconds waiting for a miracle. When I saw him recording the queue at the Ryanair gate, I thought aw, that’s really cute. But the phone hasn’t stopped since. I’m moving in with my parents when we get home. Honestly, I don’t think he’ll even notice.”

With the social media platform reel favourite at peak saturation, thousands of disheveled dads on holiday have been reported abandoned by their families, wandering Spanish promenades in a daze, searching for content worthy of a Jet2 meme.

“Some have gone past the point of no return and have developed a form of Jet2 Holiday psychosis,” confirmed a member of a local task force treating affected tourists. “The ironic thing is if they just filmed each other’s desperate non-stop filming they might actually achieve what they’re looking for.”
