Hugh Jackman To Play Eamon Dunphy In ‘Saipan’ Film
A NEW MOVIE starring Steve Coogan as Mick McCarthy centred on the events leading up Ireland’s 2002 World Cup campaign has also confirmed several big name Hollywood actors locked in to play key characters who were instrumental in the Saipan saga, WWN has learned.
Filmmakers Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn confirmed Eamon Dunphy will be played by the only person who can replicate Dunphy’s essence, none other than Hugh Jackman. The role will see Jackman live with Eamon and his wife in Dublin for a few months to help perfect the part.
“My liver has already packed it in,” Jackman said of his first day emulating Dunphy. “Eamon’s great fun, but he sometimes wells up and starts crying for no reason, which is going to be hard for me to get right as an actor, but I’m enjoying the Dunphy experience and have become really good at chucking pens across studio floors”.
Among the casting, 94-year-old Clint Eastwood is to play Johnny Giles with shooting to begin in Ireland before the end of the summer.
“Clint was an obvious choice to play Johnny, and we can’t wait to showcase the world’s first fully AI generated Humphrey Bogart to play Liam Brady,” one source told WWN.
A massive casting call has also been issued looking for 10,000 extras to recreate a battlefield scene depicting the pro-McCarthy versus the pro-Keano war which rocked Ireland in 2002.
“We said let’s create a war scene between the two sides to jazz it up a bit for the big screen,” the producer revealed.
