Opening Your Car Door As Wide As You Can Onto The Street, A Guide

ACCORDING to a new study people are not opening their car doors as wide as they can onto the street, and in the process inadvertently allowing on-coming cars enough time and space to avoid certain disaster. WWN motoring has put together this handy guide for people to correctly swing that car door open without warning. 

Don’t look

Firstly, make sure the door you are exiting is road-side. Whatever you do, don’t look to see if there’s any cars or cyclists approaching. Your aim here is to make oncoming cars to brake suddenly or even better yet, swerve into oncoming traffic.

Speed is everything

Open the door as fast as possible. Literally kick it out there if you have to. The faster you do this the harder it is for a motorist to avoid it. Sometimes a good shoulder out gives you the momentum to also step out quickly with the door. Don’t worry, if someone hits you it will be their fault. 

Never make eye contact

Pretending you just didn’t passively aggressively swing that door right out onto the road will drive those affected insane. Ignore their beeps or attempts to call you out. If they were any good at driving they should have predicted this. 

Enjoy the moment

Leave that door out wide for as long as you want. Take your time to gather whatever you need to take from the car causing traffic to stop on your side. Just have fun with it. Enjoy the moment.
