A HUGE BOOST for Ireland ahead of their crunch World Cup qualifier on Monday has come in the shape of an unfit Gareth Bale failing to make the Wales squad.

Bale, regarded as one of the best players in the world, will be unavailable for the crucial match with his injury paving the way for Ireland to still lose to Wales.

“This is a massive stroke of luck, we’ll still lose but it’ll be that bit more agonising for us to be so close only to ship two goals to players not called Gareth Bale,” explained one excited fan, who fears he’ll barely have time to really dwell on a frustrating and anemic draw against Moldova on Friday.

The Irish team camp is said to be in a buoyant mood after the news emerged, with O’Neill drilling his players even more intensely in aimlessly passing the ball before hoofing it into the box.

“They’ve been instructed by Martin, with Bale’s absence in mind, to focus even more closely on not changing anything on the pitch no matter how clear it becomes that what they’re doing isn’t working,” an Irish team insider explained.

As positives begin to add up for Ireland, fans can’t help to express some hope that with Bale out it will be a completely different type of loss.

“That’s the only thing isn’t it, I’ll be too excited by the prospect of losing to Bale-less Wales I won’t get into that dire depression after the Moldova draw. Jesus, I might be so distracted, I won’t even pull my hair out over how slow, predictable and ineffective our style of play is,” added the fan.
