BRITISH Sky Broadcasting announced an exclusive €45m deal with South African sprint runner Oscar Pistorius for up-to-date live trial tweets during proceedings.

The double amputee will be expected to tweet his thoughts and feelings during the trial every 5-10 minutes on a special twitter account set up by the News Network.

Mr. Pistorius was granted permission by the court to continue operating a specially designated smart phone given to him by Sky News. The phone also has a camera and Sky Chief Executive Jeremy Darroch claims it will bring televised trials into the 21st century.

“Not only can we now see inside the courtroom, but also into the mindset of the defendant.” said Darroch. “Oscar will be held responsible for his own tweets, and they will not reflect the opinions of British Sky B.”

The South African, who is charged with murdering his girlfriend, sent his first tweet shortly after beginning the trial this morning, uploading a concerned looking selfie picture with the words ‘Bricking it. Shouldn’t have insisted on that Madras Curry last night #JapaneseFlagSyndrome’.

Included in his Sky News contract, Pistorius will also have to mention certain products and services randomly throughout the proceedings, in what Sky News claims is a bid to retrieve revenue from the 45 million euro deal.

“Main sponsors of the Sky News live feed, Cillit Bang, will have to be mentioned at least once a day.” revealed a spokesperson. “So don’t be shocked if you hear Oscar shouting ‘BANG! And the dirt is gone’ now and again.”

The trial is expected to last for quite some time.
